A map of your village, made by the people who live there.

Sintel Labs makes Dorpsatlas, a map platform for Dutch villages. Local history groups add farmsteads, routes, photos and stories, and travel back to 1832 with a slider.

Dorpsatlas

Every village has people who know where the old farm stood, who lived there, and where the path ran that is now a street. Dorpsatlas gives that knowledge a permanent home: a shared map with its own web address, such as jansen.dorpsatlas.nl.

You decide who can see it: only your team, anyone with the address, or the whole world. Dorpsatlas itself is in Dutch.

PlacesFarmsteads, routes, areas and special places, with photos, sources and a timeline for each farm.
Back in timeHistorical maps of the whole country, the land register of 1832 and a year slider that shows what stood where, and when.
StoriesTell a piece of history as a journey across the map, with photos and a narrated version.
Working togetherA to-do list, review before publishing and questions on any place. Every change is kept.
QR signsPut up a sign at a place. Visitors scan it to read and listen on the spot.
SourcesImport national monuments, Wikidata or your own spreadsheet, and search archives and old newspapers.

Bring together what members know and what newsletters and archives hold, on one map. You decide what goes public.

Load your family tree and see on the map where your family lived, year by year.

How to start

  1. Choose a web address, for example jansen.dorpsatlas.nl.
  2. Point out on the map where your atlas is.
  3. Choose who can see it: only your team, or anyone with the address.
  4. Invite your group and put the first place on the map.

The first 90 days are free. After that, we choose a subscription together that fits your village or society.

About Sintel Labs

Sintel Labs is a small Dutch software company. We build Dorpsatlas together with the volunteers who use it: an idea or problem reported in the app ends up on our workbench.

The atlas runs on a server in Amsterdam, with no ads and no tracking cookies. Whatever you add, you can always export.
